- Glad to see a Hobby and Craft area - I know there are a lot of knit and crochet geeks out here just waiting to jump in to ask and answer any questions and to share their knowledge and projects! Maybe we will even get to see some finished projects along the way!!!
I am currently knitting baby hats for newborns and donating to a local hospital. The hospitals to receive hats for the babies to wear home as many leave with nothing to wear on their heads. They really do appreciate these small donations from anyone that likes to sit keep their hands moving, but doesn't know what to do with the project when done. So whether you like to knit or crochet, think of your local hospital and little baby hats.
Welcome ALL crafters!!!
i havent tried crocheting but i was told knitting is easier. i can only do scarves. or blankets. basically square or rectangle objects.... and i still cant change yarn. (to start new color or start a new ball) i have a great book with pictures but i always get it mixed up. feel free to throw me some tips and pics. ha!
- actually, since I do both, I can't tell you which is easier. Some think knitting and some think crochet. I do think that crocheting can produce a faster finished item tho! It is fun to be able to trade off on both to eliminate the boredom or burnout! I have a found a wealth of help and ideas on youtube - just plug in what you are looking for and you might just find a cool vid showing you how step by step - I checked changing colors for you and came up with this one:

My best tip? PRACTICE....PRACTICE....PRACTICE!!
thanks!
I honestly think they are almost the same in difficulty - knitting may be just a teeny bit harder to learn because of holding 2 needles instead of one - and I also think it is a little slower to finish what you are making, but it produces beautiful work!
Learning is getting easier now a days with youtube coming into the picture - there is a wealth of teaching videos out there on it and it is always easier to learn by seeing than by looking at a book! Check it out...
Wonderful that you were a receiver of someone knit for baby hats - hearing from someone that actually received a finished product makes it all worth it!
Love, Love, Love this new forum and hope to get many more involved in it so more good advice will turn up.
Glad to meet'cha, Smartmom!
I've been wanting to learn how to use one of those simple looms. Didn't know what they were called until I googled it right now. Anyone know how to use these? Seems like it'd be very relaxing.
Hummmm.....now that looks very interesting. I can see that some beautiful work can be produced from it! I'm going to watch this with interest - could be the start of a whole new crafting area for me -! Anyone out there that has tried this or already an expert on it that can give us some guidance???
Have you ever tried one of these:
I know it kinda has a kiddie/barbie kinda look but hey if it works - I dunno. Ok maybe its a lazy way of knitting but well.......

And now I'm gonna be a complete mom and post some of those pics. , My mother buys everything the kid is on... Me, I bought the first few. My mom has more Cinderella dress up clothes than she knows what to do with, including a talking Cinderella vanity !
See my head got to thinking - hey 14 hours in the SUV to our house in NC bet with that baby I could whip out a scarf or two. I know a true knitter would look at me like I was claiming to be a painter yet buying a paint by numbers kit (which those can be fun too - ). Maybe one day I'll learn. I guess since my mom and grandma don't knit I have no one to really teach me

Hey this is a new area and like you I LOVE IT! I'll admit the only think I know how to knit is these santa faces. When I was prego with my last child I was on bed rest and board. I think I make hundreds of santa faces and sad to say I dont think I have one now :-(
I would love to learn how to really knit or crochet. I think its wonderful that you knit for the babies. I know our hospital did that and all of my boys came home wearing them. So any advice on a newbie wanting to learn how to. Which would you say is easier learning to knit or crochet?
