Hi, My name is Roni from South Carolina. I have a question about file extensions. My girlfriend in Florida sends photos to my email address but everytime she sends pictures, it gets to my email in a *.dat file. I tried renaming the file but it is not working. Sometimes when I rename it, it comes out, for example: 2009game.jpg.dat. At her end, she is sending the file .jpg but when it reaches me , it is *.dat. What could be causing this? Any ideas?

Roni

Hey Roni! What email client is the file being sent to, and from? I'm betting someone is using outlook express?

Re: file extenstions

that's happened to me when i send stuff using Outlook from work. turning off "rich text" and using "plain text" works. that is, if someone is in fact using Outlook Roni.

ps- welcome to GeekDrop Roni!

Hi Roni

Like both Critter and MIW said, if you can get your friend in Florida to go into her contact book and set you to only recieve plain text as opposed to rich text, you should be all set. If you can't get her to do that for you, here is a site that will decode the attachments for you: Clicky
