I though I would share these pics. We have a heron bird (he stands like almost 3 feet tall) and about 5 days a week he comes looking for food. We have a dock in our back yard and the kids like to fish. We don't eat the fish out of our lake but if the heron is there he will wait patiently and the kids will toss him their catches (they catch alot out there). Well today I hear my cat going bonkers so I went to go look and see. the bird was literally looking in the french doors into the house. Its a peeping bird. I ran to grab the camera because it was so funny but the dog semi scared it. So here are pics of the heron and my son feeding it bread (yes I disguised my son - privacy and all)
With all of the wild critters we get I really at times feel like a zoo but in the city
Beautiful bird and SM what a beautiful pool and backdrop you have at your home! love it!!
~karma: i'm countin on it~
Thanks. I'm telling you I'm like my own private wild kingdom. We have gators in the lake and tons of duck. In the yard we get a bunch of squirls and in the spring they nest and in the fall we get owls and they nest in the yard too. We get opossums, we get Anole's which scare the tar out of me every time I see one because they hide so when you find one its total shock. I was sitting in my gazebo and one caught my eye and he was like maybe 3 feet away from me and he had to be alteast 15" long. Then we have snakes which I just love (NOT).
I do love my yard though, my back yard is huge. My neighbors are great and yeah the view is awesome
That is an awesome looking backyard. I love Florida. Is that a coconut tree in your backyard? That's not fair ...
btw, your son looks strikingly like Groucho Marx.
Yep the tree is in the back yard, I actually have 9 coconut trees on my property (6 in the back and 3 in the front). Its easy to grow a new one just toss a coconut in a pot with soil and woo la you'll have a tree (you don't even have to bury it). I got two coconut trees from the neighbor by doing that when we first moved in and the rest we grew that way. If you look in the second pic you can see the base of the tree and it has a curve. Back to back hurricanes put a curve in all larger coconuts and it stayed that way. I love coconut trees, low maintenance, they don't drop leaves in the pool and they are great for shade plus it adds to the whole tropical feel.
What you didn't know I am Groucho Marx's mom
So when they're ripe for eating, do they just fall out fo the tree? Or do you have to get one of those littel trained monkies to scale it and grab ya some?
I've heard if a coconut falls from the tree onto your head, you're dead. That true?
Want me to ship you a coconut? Yeah they are suppose to drop when ripe but we cut them off because we get so many and they get really heavy and yes they can hit you on your head and kill you. Every blue moon we hear on the new someone was killed by a falling coconut. The last death I remember was a infant - sad but true it landed on a baby
I posted this pic here a while back (somewhere) with my tree full of coconuts - you can see how many grown and it you wait for them to drop they can drop in a clump. We trim them before that happens
Iowa, unfortunantly
Ive always wanted to see one up close, what a beautiful bird!! Thanks for sharing MOM! Oh and great looking kiddo too!
