I'm trying to get drupal installed but I'm running into a few errors during the install. Here is a screnshot.
Let me add that I am using an app called "appserve" wich installs all I need to run a site myself. I've been using it for a long time now and never had any issue installing a cms site before.
I added a php.ini file that has the following lines but still no go. I"m not sure if maybe I have the .ini file in the wrong place? any suggestions?
register_globals = Off extension=pdo.so extension=pdo_sqlite.so extension=sqlite.so extension=pdo_mysql.so
Thanks.
That php_info file was helpful. Turns out it was in fact pointing to a php.ini file in c:\windows.
Yea, I could take care of the memory issue from either the main php.ini file or through the main sites settings. But for the rest of the issues I was able to solve them all from the main php.ini. There is a whole "extensions" list that I had to go into and add what I needed. Another thing though that was weird that I never encountered before was that I had to enter in the dll extention to allow the drupal install to allow me the choice of using a mysql database during the setup. I never had to do that with appserve before. So now I'm able to get to the point of installing drupal. However as soon as I choose the database and get to the point where I should see my first main page I get an "error page not found" page. See screenshot below. Maybe I didn't give proper file rights or something. I'm going to sit down with the isntall dir's and start from scratch today. Now that I know how to configure the settings. I could I suppose work on installing all this myself but I just find using something like appserve so much easier and have never had an issue with it really. Why spend all the time learning how to install everything manually really wehn I can do it all in a matter of a minute. I suppose I should just for the learning of it though.
You might need to go into the Drupal Settings.php file and play with the $base_url value.
But yea, I hear ya, if you're just kind of toying around with a local version you probably don't need anything more than appserve. Also, appserve has Apache as it's web server, and you end up using IIS in Windows instead. I do love IIS but most web hosts use Apache unless you pay extra for an IIS server, so it's a more natural approach when ready to upload/install it on a non-local server for production. That said, it IS fun and a great learning experience to install full PHP and MySQL on your Windows computer and get it all working. It's not that hard and it's real nice once it's all setup and working. Not to mention you can then play with coding ASP.NET on it.
think I got it working now.
I reverted to an earlier version of appserv. Must be some bugs still in the new ver.
For what I need now I'm going to stick with appserv. I don't see a need not to and speed of the essense. I would rather spend my time figuring out php and how to use drupal then messing with all the other base stuff.

I've never used Appserve so I can't really give any insight there, I've always just installed the full MySQL server and PHP onto my local computer for working locally, but one handy thing to do to help setup and troubleshoot is to create a PHP Info file and upload it to your server (appserve in this case). It'll tell you exactly where the php.ini that the server is reading from is for starters, and also shows which extensions are enabled, among other info.
Just create a file named something like php_info.php and put this code in it
Also, you can increase the memory limit of just your Drupal site without increasing it for all sites on your server by just adding a line to your settings.php file rather than your php.ini
You can change the memory limit in increments like this: 8M, 16M, 32M, 64M, 128M, etc., it's best to start low and increase one jump at a time until you dial in how much is needed for your site. It's not just a matter of cranking it to the highest you can and leaving it at that. 32M is a good place to start.
