So yahoo just released the Top 10 Most Controversial Games. I have to admit some games shocked me and some games did not. There were also some that I think should have been on the list but were not.
According to Yahoo these are the TOP 10 Controversial Games:
Death Race from back in 1976 was the first "controversial game" with the players having to run down humanoids
Mortal Kombat from 1992 with its shocking killings. This game paved the way for Congress to start making games rated
DOOM - 1993 upset may religios groups and was tied to the tragic 1999 Columbine High School massacre.
Postal - 1997 baised on you guessed it Postal employees homicides. This game caused a law suit but was later tossed out of court
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - 2004 well between the sexually-explicit or the violance this game made the list.
Resistance: Fall of Man - 2006. With the violence and the fact that they used the Manchester Cathedral in the game that set off some upset with the Church of England
Manhunt 2 - 2007 was the first game to destroy Wii's innocence. Users were allowed to preform horric executions and earned the AO rating making it basically banned until developers edited the offending content. In the end the game didn't do that well
Mass Effect - 2007 this game got caught up in a offensive attack about players having romantic relationships. EA ended up with lots of publicity
LittleBigPlanet - 2008 when the game was first released it had to be recalled because in contained words from the Qur'an unknown by the manufacture
Resident Evil 5 - 2009 has been accused of promoting racist imagery by featuring white protagonist killing hordes of black zombies.
I agree you can find something "bad" in everything if you twist it around. BTW my kids have resident evil...ehhhhh. I could think of worse games for sure.
I really don't get the Mass Effect thing, I've played through that game like 4 times and never saw anything even close to the stuff in Mortal Kombat or GTA. Its all hogwash anyway, games don't make people violent just like TV and movies don't. When I was a kid it was just kinda known that games and TV are fake i.e; not real life, whatever happened to that I dont know
By the way the muslims need to get it through their heads that you are allowed to make fun of someone or something and NOT be killed for it.
I think, and have for a few years now, that the big problem is the media and people who dont know anything about or play games, view games as a kids thing. It isn't like it used to be, all those kids who got their first nintendo in 1985, like me, have grown up and still play. Games have branched out to a level that people who didnt follow it just dont understand. There are stories that are deeper than many hollywood movies and people of all ages play, even more girls now. Its as big a medium for entertainment as TV and movies ever were, and the video game indusrty takes in more money than either of those.
Oh I agree 100%. They need to realize there is a age for everything. I know alot of adults (mind you mostly men) that will stay up all night to play that new game. I think some times some things are blown so out of proportion its not even funny.
Oh please.
As for the other games, well you know maybe it wouldn't be such a controversy if parents were um actually "parents". They should be aware of the games that their children buy or what they play, because you know that's their job.
I agree, people should just grow up and learn to accept the fact that this is just another form of entertainment.

So I look at these games and yes my kids have a few of them. Here is my thought on the games - it they show you killing or attacking another person then no I don't want the game. However if your attacking some zombie or allien then I'm pretty much fine with it. I see it as like like kids playing cops and robbers (like when we were little) its fun and just because you play doesn't make you a killer or more violent.
I guess bottom line is you have to know your child. If your child is so absorbed in the games that they take over then yes it would be a issue however it they have a healthy balance in life then fine.
I did get a laugh at littlebigworld being on the list - I bought that game this past Christmas - no wonder I had a hard time finding it.
