Bet that Subject got your attention huh. Well its true Hackers are wanted - and the best part is they are being paid! So since I know we may have some *cough - cough* hackers here on geekdrop I thought I would pass this along. Hey why not get paid to play plus the perks of picking up a new trick or two (or three), just remember to share the
WASHINGTON -
Wanted: Computer hackers.
Federal authorities aren't looking to prosecute them, but to pay them to secure the nation's networks.
General Dynamics Information Technology put out an ad last month on behalf of the Homeland Security Department seeking someone who could "think like the bad guy." Applicants, it said, must understand hackers' tools and tactics and be able to analyze Internet traffic and identify vulnerabilities in the federal systems.
In the Pentagon's budget request submitted last week, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said the Pentagon will increase the number of cyberexperts it can train each year from 80 to 250 by 2011.
With warnings that the U.S. is ill-prepared for a cyberattack, the White House conducted a 60-day study of how the government can better manage and use technology to protect everything from the electrical grid and stock markets to tax data, airline flight systems, and nuclear launch codes.
President Barack Obama appointed a former Bush administration aide, Melissa Hathaway, to head the effort, and her report was delivered Friday, the White House said.
, there's this 'crew' that I used to know of back in the day that would have little tests to see if the applicant could actually do what they claim, in order to join, and how well they did the test(s). My bet would be they would do the same sort of thing. Maybe throw up some test websites using the same protection schemes as they are trying to keep protected on their real sites, or test networks to try and gain access to, or something along those lines.
References like you mention about the world coming to an end would most likely be the office chatter/bragging once the applicant was already hired and working there. Hackers love to brag and gloat.
that is great a bullpoop meter type of test. Your right I know some wantabe/think they are hackers that are so full of it and fun to screw with just because you so know they are full of it. Oh in no way am I claiming to ever be a hacker...that is past my skill level.
Hackers love to brag and gloat.

OK I got to thinking . How cool would you look if you could say "Yes I'm a professional hacker" on the flip side if your NOT hired well you just informed the US Gov. that you can 1) Hack 2) how you hack 3) what tools you use....not good. How would you fill out the references? "Remember when _____ was hacked and the world came to a end, yep that was me"
