Well, judging by our previous poll: Casey Anthony: Does She Deserve The Death Penalty?, 83 GeekDrop members and visitors (at the time of this writing) think that Casey Anthony DID deserve the death penalty before hearing the final verdict, while 36 of you did NOT think she deserved the death penalty for murdering Caylee.
Now that the judge has handed down the verdict of Not Guilty for murdering Caylee, what are your opinions? Do you think Casey got off with an "O.J."? Or do you agree with the jury that she's not guilty? I'd love to hear everyones real opinions!
Read FL 782.07 which is the 3rd charge and also 827.03(3) which is referred to in 782.07. The term "culpable negligence" is there and in Judge Perry's specific definition he said, "supervision...essential for the welfare for the child".
Casey Anthony was responsible for her child and obviously failed to provide safety because the child died. She then hid the body and then lied to protect herself. THAT is aggravated manslaughter which was charge number 3 which the jury failed to understand fully.
The body had to be disposed of by someone who had access to the Anthony household because of the items found with the remains. George and Cindy Anthony's involvement can be excluded by watching the jailhouse videos that were submitted into evidence. They were being lied-to during visits alone with Casey and also when they visited together. It's obvious that they did not know anything at the time of those visits.
Also... if the story that the defense fabricated was true, Casey would have spilled it from the get-go to get her butt out of the wringer instead of making up lies about visiting rich boyfriends she didn't have and about abductions by nannies that never existed. Had she thought of the George-assisted drowning story when she was arrested, she would have told the police THAT story instead of spending 3 years in jail.
That's all this jury needed to send her to prison but they were too bogged down with CSI details that they didn't need.
Maybe Ashton should have passed out the coloring books and explained to this tired jury in detail that Casey could also have been found guilty on a lesser charge than murder if the jury felt Kaylee's mysterious death was only the result of Casey's culpable negligence and not necesarily murder. Because the prosecution's case was focused mainly on murder 1 and 2, the manslaughter charge was glossed over and the jury didn't understand it.
At least OJ's first jury had a burning reason for setting him free. Casey Anthony's jury admittedly failed to use reason because those that have given interviews are saying the "prosecution failed to prove murder". They did not understand that charge number 3 was not about murder or motive - just a jury's determination that Casey was somehow negligent and was somehow responsible for the death of her daughter.
The lies and the jailhouse tapes say it all.
I agree with the verdict - That's why we have trial by Jury, so that cases can be reviewed and judged fairly by regular people. And before people can start shouting "racism" because she's white, remember that the judge is black, and some members of the jury were also black.
ok I think Casey Anthony is guilty because #1 we all know shes guilty #2 she lied to a law inforcer and also made up some rediculous story about a nanny kidnaping little Caylee . I think she deservse a life sentence because who is sick enough to smother their 2 year old child who was compleitly harmlees to her .Its ovidious that she killed her if she waited 31 days to even say anything and come on why would her car smell like death and also she looked up how to break somebodys neck a few weeks before Caylee went ''missing''. I dont know why the judge would be stupid enough to order her not guilty . Its a shame that Casey got away with this i guess you can say sence she not goin to be in prison for the murder. I kind of have to laugh a little bit-- the country seems to have no problem accepting the word of the Government that Bin Laden is dead but does have a problem accepting the Government's ruling on this trial, even when it's been decided with the help of a jury of everyday people, and not just the blind word of Uncle Sam? People are NUTS!
