So if you're an AmazonAmazon Affiliate (someone who partners with AmazonAmazon.com, sending customers to them in order to get a cut of a potential sale) like thousands of us out there, guess what? If you're also from Illinois you just got the shaft, thanks to a new "Internet Tax" law passed in that state. Way to go guys! You fail miserably at managing your money, so you stick it to us!

Here's the email AmazonAmazon.com sent to all of it's Illinois Publishers:

Greetings from the AmazonAmazon Associates Program:

We regret to inform you that the Illinois state legislature has passed an unconstitutional tax collection scheme that, if signed by Governor Quinn, would leave AmazonAmazon.com little choice but to end its relationships with Illinois-based Associates. You are receiving this email because our records indicate that you are a resident of Illinois. If our records are incorrect, you can manage the details of your Associates account here.

Please note that this not an immediate termination notice and you are still a valued participant in the AmazonAmazon Associates Program. But if the governor signs this bill, we will need to terminate the participation of all Illinois residents in the Associates Program. After that point, we will no longer pay any advertising fees for sales referred to AmazonAmazon.com, endless.com and smallparts.com nor will we accept new applications for the Associates Program from Illinois residents.

The unfortunate consequences of this legislation on Illinois residents like you were explained to the legislature, including Senate and House leadership, as well as to the governor's staff.

Over a dozen other states have considered essentially identical legislation but have rejected these proposals largely because of the adverse impact on their states' residents.

Governor Quinn's office may be reached here.

We thank you for being part of the AmazonAmazon Associates Program, and wish you continued success in the future.

Sincerely,

Amazon.com

Here's the rub ... lest anyone out there, not in the state of Illinois just shrugs their shoulders and says "oh well, sucks to be you", remember .... things like this are contagious; if it does "well" in the state of Illinois in the eyes of the politicians, it'll be coming to your state in the near future as well. This tax will be putting thousands of online Illinois affiliates out of a source of income, possibly their only source of income, in a recession nonetheless, and damages the AmazonAmazon company, which being one of the largest online stores will most certainly have a trickle-down effect on the rest of the internet in ways no one can fully predict at the moment, but it doesn't take much thought to figure out the obvious ill effects right off the bat. But hey, at least the Illinois government is getting more money to mismanage, right?

&^%*$# Illinois politicians!! Angry The other few states that already have a law like this have NOT seen the money they expected to see, and all of the other states have purposely AVOIDED copying them by creating a law of their own like this! EVERYBODY WRITE TO GOVERNOR QUINN and tell him to shove this new law up the lawmakers asses!!

Here's is a DIRECT email contact form. It only takes a minute to email him your concern about this BEFORE he signs it. LINK

I've written Governor Quinn about this, hopefully it actually makes a difference ...
