So wired did a story on ppl having "Buyers Remorse" that products they though would last them years are only being replaced after a few months - is this fair to the consumer. I know we always want the newest most best product but some times I think the manufactures jump the guns to put a product out there only to come out with a upgrade product a few months later. Its almost like there needs to be a technology etiquette. I know microsoft tends to come out with a new OS like every 3 years or so, I think that is fair. I know that office 2007 seams like it just came out but now office 2010 is just around the corner, heck I'm still learning the ins and outs of 2007 version. I don't plan to make that upgrade any time soon.
So what I find very relevant about this story wired did is it list the top 5 gadgets. Who hit the number one spot - none other then the Apple iphone. I then point to the current shout box:
James Clerk: I hate AT&T. Stupid. mean, bad people... I want a new iPhone! *whines*
James Clerk: Let me 'splain. It would cost me $150 to break my contract early. No upgrades for James. I'm poor. Can't afford $350. *am sad*
Yep that is the number one complaint - customers who just got the last iphone are now stuck with it unless they are willing to cough up serious money to get the new one.
Wired listed the top 5 as:
Buyer's remorse. It's been around forever and is especially rife in the gadget world, where every year there is a smaller, faster or cuter version of every device you own. But where a products life used to be measured in years, now it can be just months. In the cellphone market, this is particularly dangerous: You sign up for a 24 month relationship with a single gadget, but even as you pen your name on the line you know youl'l be tempted to cheat in less than a year.
Now, right or wrong, buyers are fighting back and trying to force manufacturers to give them cheap upgrades. Sometimes they have a case, but most of the time they're just whining.
So what product has gotten you in the past or currently with Buyers Remorse? Do you feel like your throwing your money away to upgrade?
